Creating the Space Your Smile Needs

If you have a teenager or young adult in your family who is between the ages of 16 and 25, they may be complaining about pain toward the back of their mouth. While a normal toothache may be the problem, it’s likely their wisdom teeth are to blame. Their partial eruption (or impaction) can place unwanted pressure on healthy teeth and cause pain along the jawbone; however, our Next Door Dental team can take care of it. With wisdom tooth extractions, our dentists can make the problem disappear, so call us to schedule an appointment today.

The Wisdom Tooth Process

Once we decide that it is necessary to remove a patient’s wisdom teeth, we will begin by administering local anesthesia to numb the area. This will prevent them from feeling any pain throughout the process. We’ll then carefully remove any gum tissue that might be in the way before elevating the tooth with specialized instruments. From there, we’ll gently move it back and forth so that it detaches from the socket.
If one or more of these teeth are impacted, a more extensive procedure will be required. The dentist will open the gums to reveal the underlying tooth and bone. We’ll then section the tooth and remove it in pieces so there is less trauma to the nearby soft tissues, leading to an easier and shorter recovery.
